Gif camera

Gif camera in the Rec Center

There are three types of video camera available in Rec Room, which allow PC users to record short clips of their time in Rec Room. Currently these do not work on PSVR. Live cameras are only available in Paddleball, the other cameras are also available in the Rec Center and Paintball.

Video and Gif Cameras[]

Vid camera

When held, the video cameras display what they can see. To take a video, hold the trigger down, and observe a red dot and a red progress line on the video output. This shows how long you've been recording and how long you have left on this video. Videos taken on PC save to the directory "Documents/Rec Room". The gif camera records video in (animated) gif format, and the video camera records video in mp4 format. Currently there is no support for sound recording. These cameras have been removed from the game.

Live Camera[]

Jmb camera

Live camera (Jumbotron camera) in Paddleball

When held, this camera displays what it can see on the large jumbotron in the Paddleball hall. When dropped, the last held position of the camera is used. Apart from that, it works like the gif camera. This camera no longer exists.

Streaming Camera[]

The Video and GIF cameras have been substituted for a better camera called the Streaming Camera. You can configure this camera in the Stream Mixer in the Advanced Tab of the Settings Menu of your Watch Menu. For VR streaming camera, you must play PCVR as it will send what the camera sees to your monitor. You can also use streaming cam on Screen mode with 2 monitors.

These cameras are limited to very short videos without audio. Most gameplay videos of Rec Room are captured from the Rec Room desktop window using, for example, the Xbox Game Bar on Windows 10, OBS, or NVIDIA ShadowPlay.

On PS4, use PlayStation Share. On Meta Quest, use the built-in recording feature.
